TCVM for Veterinary Technicians
Chi Institute is proud to announce its TCVM Veterinary Technician program. This program is designed to serve the doctor practicing acupuncture and other TCVM modalities. The veterinary team has to be knowledgeable and competent in TCVM before they can provide the best service to their doctor and patient. A recent survey indicated that it is not uncommon for a TCVM visit to average of 1 to 1.5 hours. This does not even include telephone time. We expect that technician

training will provide you with a greater opportunity to become more efficient with your time.

This program is dedicated for Veterinary Technicians of a hospital where TCVM is practiced. A reference letter from a licensed veterinarian is required to enroll in this program. This program will concentrate on TCVM theoretical principles and practical techniques for veterinary technician to know in assisting the veterinarian. The graduates from this program are recommended to work under the supervision of a TCVM doctor. This program does not provide any TCVM diagnostic information.

The goals of this program:
1) Understand the TCVM fundamental principles (yin-yang, five elements etc), TCVM scientific basis, indications and contraindications of each TCVM procedure. Thus, graduates are able to promote the Veterinary TCVM service.

2) Learn basic TCVM procedures (electro-acupuncture, moxibustion, tui-na, food therapy, life-style, and other physical therapies including Laser, vibration-external Qi-gong, TDP lamps, etc). Graduates will be able to perform some of the simple and repetitive TCVM procedures saving the TCVM doctors' time.

3) The ultimate goal of this program is to train veterinary technicians, so that their knowledge and skills will allow veterinarians to be more effective and efficient in their practice of TCVM.

Student Feedbacks:

“Thank you so much for this enlightening, educational time!”

Vanessa Persson – TCVM Veterinary Technician Program, March 1-4, 2007

“As vets, we desperately need staff with some working knowledge of these basic principles in order to address clients’ concerns with  intelligent guidance, both in person, and on the phone.  Then we have more time to diagnose, needle and pay close attention to the progress of our TCVM patients, knowing that some of the routine work will be caringly handled by a well trained technician who can not only help the animal, but communicate effectively with its owner as well.”

Kim Hombs, DVM – June 2007
